One people land at Fagali’i Airport they will find their luggage pretty quickly as it is a relatively small airport. They can be taken to their hotel by either a hotel shuttle or by one of the taxis that wait outside the terminal for passengers.
The Fagali’i Airport is a public airport that is operated by the Samoa Airport Authority. Polynesian Airlines is the airplane company that currently uses this airport. They have international flights that go to Pago Pago, American Samoa. The flights are about USD $150, or 380 Samoan Tala. This is for a roundtrip ticket per adult. Fagali’i Airport has additional fees and surcharges as well.
Once you’ve landed at Fagali’i Airport and dropped off your luggage at your hotel you will find a number of things to do and see. Apia has a great cultural center, three neat markets to visit, a broad range of places to eat as well as nightspots to enjoy. A lot of this is within walking distance so, for the most part, there is no need to rent a car or take a taxi.
The biggest cultural event that takes place in Apia is near the Fagali’i Airport. The Aggie Grey’s Hotel holds an event on Wednesday evenings called “Fia Fia” according to expedia.com. It features traditional Samoan dances including a spectacular one where they do one called the fire-knife dance that is just what it sounds like.
Just down the road from Fagali’i Airport on Beach Road there is the Museum of Samoa on the first floor of the courthouse according to youtube.com. This has historical photos of the area and its citizens, Lapita pottery, tattoo informational services, and stone adze heads. This is open each weekday from 10:00 to 4:30 and is free for visitors.
